Soundtrack for Social Change

This year we are facing one of the most exciting presidential runnings ever. Next week is the California primary elections and so in honor of this I composed a list of my top 10 political/protest songs. These songs are sure to spark some sense of change.

1. Bob Dylan- "Blowin' in the Wind"

2. The Clash- "London Calling"

3. Creedence Clearwater Revival- "Fortunate Son"

4. Tom Waits- "Road to Peace"

5. Black Sabbath- "War Pigs"

6. John Lennon- "Imagine"

7. Marvin Gaye- "What's Going On?"

8. Public Enemy- "Fight the Power"

9. Arcade Fire- "Intervention"

10. Bruce Springsteen- "Born in the U.S.A."

What a cool idea! I bet nobody else found a way to put a list of kick ass songs into their blog and stay in topic with the class. You are very creative.

Let me start by saying that I think this is a pretty good idea. Now, i know that anytime a "best of" type list of music is objective and subject to different tastes, but I have some problems with the choosen content. I just don't see how you can leave out to genres of music that are written almost wholly in response to social justice issues (reggae and the blues). I also think that the list is to white and should be more rounded in that area. Its a great idea, i just think the list needs some reworking.

Considering the majority of our generation revolves around music, I think using politically rich music as an attempt to inspire people to get out and vote is brilliant!
